How to Use Your CPF Training Account: Eligible Purchases and Expenses to Know

The personal training account (CPF) is a system that credits each active individual with an annual amount intended to finance training actions. Since 2024, a flat participation fee of 150 euros applies to each registration on the Mon Compte Formation platform, which changes the way to manage expenses. Knowing precisely which training courses and certifications are covered helps avoid using rights on ineligible or capped actions.

Flat participation and ceilings by CPF training category

Before choosing a training course, the first piece of information to consider is the unavoidable cost. Decree No. 2024-394 of April 29, 2024, established a flat participation fee of 150 euros charged to the account holder, deducted at the time of validation of the file on Mon Compte Formation.

This participation applies regardless of the available balance and regardless of the price of the training. Several exemption cases exist: contributions related to a work accident or occupational disease (AT-MP) with permanent incapacity, certain contributions paid by an employer or an OPCO, or specific situations provided for by specific texts.

The other mechanism to know concerns the coverage ceilings by type of training. In 2026, certain categories are subject to a maximum amount of mobilizable rights, even if the holder’s balance exceeds this threshold.

Certifications listed in the Specific Directory (RS), such as TOEIC, TOSA, or CACES, are capped at 1,500 euros per action. This cap means that for an RS certification priced at 2,000 euros, the difference remains the responsibility of the holder, in addition to the 150 euros participation fee.

Understanding how to use your CPF training account therefore requires checking both the eligibility of an action and the ceiling that applies before validating a file.

Eligible training and certifications for CPF: what is fundable

The CPF does not finance just any training. Eligible actions meet specific criteria defined by the Labor Code. Three main categories stand out.

Professional certifications registered in the RNCP or RS

The foundation of the system is based on certifications listed in the National Directory of Professional Certifications (RNCP) or the Specific Directory. The RNCP includes diplomas, professional titles, and CQP (certificates of professional qualification). The RS covers additional certifications and qualifications: languages, office skills, electrical qualifications, CACES.

Any training that does not lead to a certification registered in one of these two directories is excluded from the CPF. A personal development workshop without certification, for example, cannot be funded.

Skills assessments and VAE

The skills assessment is eligible for CPF. It allows individuals to analyze their professional and personal skills to define a career development project. The validation of acquired experience (VAE) is also fundable: it transforms professional experience into official certification without going through a complete course again.

Driving licenses and specific actions

Funding for the driving license via CPF is possible, provided that obtaining the license contributes to achieving a professional project or securing the career path. This includes licenses B, C, D and their variations.

Training actions intended for business creators or buyers are also among the mobilizable expenses.

  • RNCP certifications: diplomas, professional titles, CQPs validated by a joint commission
  • RS certifications: TOEIC, TOSA, CACES, qualifications, capped at 1,500 euros per action
  • Skills assessment, VAE, driving license (B, C, D), training for business creation

Non-eligible expenses for CPF and common mistakes

Some expenses seem logical but are not covered by the CPF. Identifying these exclusions helps avoid wasting time on fruitless searches on the platform.

Non-certifying training, even if provided by a recognized organization, is excluded. A management seminar, a public speaking workshop without RS certification, or an online training that only provides a certificate of attendance cannot be funded.

Teaching materials and ancillary costs are not covered by the CPF. The purchase of a computer, manuals, or software is not part of eligible expenses, even if these items are necessary to follow the training. Transportation and accommodation costs related to in-person training are also not covered.

Another common pitfall: training offered by organizations not listed on Mon Compte Formation. Since the tightening of controls, only organizations with Qualiopi certification can offer training eligible for CPF. An offer found outside the official platform, even if attractive, cannot be mobilized with one’s rights.

Check your CPF rights and validate a training on Mon Compte Formation

Consulting the balance is done exclusively on the Mon Compte Formation website or application, accessible with one’s social security number and FranceConnect. The amount displayed corresponds to the accumulated rights, funded at an annual amount for each year of salaried activity.

For full-time employees, the CPF is credited with 500 euros per year, capped at 5,000 euros. Unqualified employees (below the CAP/BEP level) benefit from an increased funding. Part-time workers have their rights calculated pro-rata, unless their working time is equal to or greater than half of the legal duration.

Once the balance is verified, the search for training is done directly on the platform. The search engine allows filtering by field, location (in-person or remote), and targeted certification. Each training sheet displays the price, the organization, the certification awarded, and the remaining amount after mobilizing rights and deducting the flat participation fee.

  • Check that the training is indeed certifying (RNCP or RS) before creating a file
  • Check the ceiling applicable to the targeted certification category
  • Anticipate the remaining amount: 150 euros participation plus any potential ceiling excess
  • Request an employer or OPCO contribution if the CPF balance does not cover the total

The CPF remains a concrete lever to finance skills enhancement or reorientation, provided that one targets referenced certifying training and takes into account the ceilings and flat participation fee from the choice stage. Checking one’s balance, cross-referencing with the actual cost of the training, and exploring contribution possibilities are the three reflexes that avoid unpleasant surprises when validating a file.
